PAUL STEYN CO PRODUCER
Society tells us that people with disabilities are less-than; that disabilities should be “overcome” or ignored-- not an inherent part of humanity that is embraced. With Tulbagh Earthquake we are excited to create the opportunity to train youth from disadvantaged communities as well as people with disabilities. The training includes from script to screen (behind and front of the camera) to learn first hand the craft of filmmaking.
We know first-hand that media is a powerful tool to drive change. We are committed to using our talents, networks, and stories to rewrite the narrative about disability and disabled people.
We have experience of training interns for the film industry for over the last 20 years. One of the students we are most proud of is Paul Steyn. He stood out for his passion, hard work and what he made of the training ever since. He started as an intern and up to date has been working in front of the screens on various international films, been camera operator on several productions as well as led a successful radio station. Above and beyond all this his passion to make the “disabled” able- has been his drive. The Paul Steyn Foundation was founded to raise funds for disabled persons, especially amputees through various activities
We are excited to have the Paul Steyn Foundation part of this film project.
We will spent 4 weeks in pre-production training young inexperienced staff. This includes developing people from Tulbagh Town and community.
An internship program will be created- creating more than 100 in job training opportunities behind and in front of the screen. This will be closely done in assistance with local city council, schools, universities and other. The mission of the internship program is to develop mentorship, training, skill and enterprise development with hands on learning and sustainable career opportunities. We furthermore take hands with previously disadvantaged individuals to work through work based mentorship on the film, on various positions on the film production. We focus on preparing interns and trainees to be sustainable crew - and heads of departments - while filling actual skills shortages in an increasingly diverse, internationally-competitive industry

Who do we assist?
The Paul Steyn Foundation assists only those who have no means to acquire a prosthetic limb without a very long wait on a government waiting list. We exclude road accident victims and those who have had a work accident, for obvious reasons. We have a standard set of
criteria that we follow to decide who to assist, the main deciding factor being our objective assessment of the impact that a prosthesis will have on a specific individual's quality of life. We lean towards (but not exclusively) helping young people and breadwinners of all races
