Shaun has been away from the farm where he grew up, for a lengthy period of time – undergoing training on a farm in the Northern Province. His long-time girlfriend, Karen awaits his return patiently. The same goes for his mother. The future holds big dreams and plans for the couple. But tough times lie ahead. With no- one to look after her, a simple evening out with a friend, Ita, becomes a night that changes the lives of a few people
dramatically. No-one talks, but Karen suddenly locks herself away from the world. Shaun returns unexpectedly, and is offered a new position on the farm by Mr Coetsee. But he mysteriously struggles to achieve the simplest of get-togethers with his long-time girlfriend. Shaun’s mother tries to protect her only son by keeping him away from Karen. The whole community talks behind Shaun’s back whilst Shaun tries to win his way back into Karen’s world. Shaun works hard in his new position – and is asked to be innovative. One suggestion is to bring an HIV/AIDS prevention theatre production to the farm. He manages this with aplomb. The presence of a gang – his old school buddy, Papsak and his mean bunch of friends, complicate matters. Lenteblom portrays the dilemma of a man in a community - struggling to stand up against the moral decay of our time. Lenteblom is a story of hope, where love finds a way to blossom - even in the midst of pain, brokenness and evil. |
